RACINE - Community Oriented Policing is supposed to be a partnership between a neighborhood and the police officer assigned to the area. They are supposed to work together to make the neighborhood better for everyone. That's exactly what appears to have started on 16th Street. After a store was purchased to be used as the Racine Police Department's newest COP house, businesses, organizations and individuals in the area all stepped up to make it happen. Over the past six months, they have helped COP Officer Mike Mahnke turn a run-down store into a functional space that will be well-used by police and the community.
