| NJ Boarding Home Looses Right To Operate |

MADISON — Neighbors and the owner of the decades-old Mrs. L’s Rest Home describe the small boarding home in Madison as a neighborhood fixture best known for birthday parties and elderly residents taking early morning walks to the end of the block and back. But, state officials paint a different picture. The Department of Community Affairs closed the facility Wednesday and revoked the owner’s license to ever operate a rooming or boarding home at this location or anywhere else in New Jersey. The department contends the home at 140 Central Avenue violated a number of regulations. There were unsanitary conditions at the home, inadequate staffing and the owner’s son, despite having been previously convicted of defrauding elderly people, was inappropriately involved in the management of the facility.
