| 100+ Inmates Fight In CA Prison, 2 Shot |

Calipatria, CA– A brawl involving as many as 120 inmates resulted in two inmates being shot, which left another dozen injured on Tuesday, October 19, 2010. The fight broke out at the Calipatria State Prison, which holds about 4,000 men, about 120 miles northeast of San Diego near the Salton Sea, as reported by MSNBC.com. The brawl caused the guards to use pepper spray and gunfire to break up the massive fight. Four rounds from a Ruger Mini-14 shotgun were fired, which hit two prisoners. Ten inmates were transported to outside hospitals for treatment of injuries ranging from moderate to serious. One of the gunshot victims had to be airlifted to a hospital for treatment. All the injured inmates are expected to survive. Officials would not release details leading to the fight. This is reportedly the first significant disturbance at the jail in some time. Read More. |

I agree prznboss! Media always focuses on how inmates are done wrong or hurt, but never look at how our job is or what we have to do to get things under control. It's not really an issue when an officer gets hurt, but hurt an inmate and all hell breaks loose! Crazy how much things have flip flopped
