A former Gloucester County (N.J.) Jail inmate went to the Deptford home of a corrections officer and stabbed him in the face and body, authorities said Saturday.
Police were still searching Saturday for David Drain, 33, who has been in and out of jail in recent years, authorities said. Thomas Duffy, the corrections officer, was released Saturday from Cooper University Hospital, where he had been admitted Friday night.
Police said Drain knocked on Duffy's door at 8:53 p.m. Friday and the two exchanged heated words. Drain, who knew Duffy from the jail, then stabbed the officer and fled on foot, police said.
County officials have charged Drain, who also has used the names David Francis and Vincent D. Hayes and has addresses in Deptford and Camden, with attempted murder, aggravated assault, burglary and weapons offenses. He is described as 6 feet, 3 inches tall and 245 pounds, African American, with a goatee, a two-inch scar over his left eye, a tattoo on his left arm that reads "D-Nice," and one on his right arm that says "Pam." No weapon has been recovered.
