| Housing Help From County Jails Helping State Prisons |

Six months after Butler County Prison began housing state prison inmates in the county's 1-year-old lockup, the warden said the arrangement has proven to be a money maker. Warden Rich Gigliotti told members of the county prison board Oct. 19 that the state Department of Corrections pays its invoices on time -- and in full. The state pays $60 per prisoner per day. As of Oct. 19, 24 state prisoners were in the prison in Downtown Butler. The number ranges from 24 to 30. Revenue figures aren't available yet. Most of the state inmates have sentences of from two to four years, but must be sent to the State Correctional Institution Pittsburgh six months before release to finish programs required by the state that aren't available at the Butler jail.
