| Sheriff Facing Lawsuit Over Neglected Child Abuse |

A lawsuit has been filed against the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office alleging negligence and a violation of civil rights for not reporting child abuse to the state in 2006. Two boys and their attorneys are asking for a jury trial in the matter and for actual and punitive damages. According to the court documents, the boys — identified as C.F. and B.K. — were living with adoptive parents Cindy and Frank Knowles, who also are named in the complaint, in Lincoln in 2006. Cheryl Liedle was the sheriff at the time. In September 2006, a Lincoln resident walking by the Knowles’ home saw Cindy Knowles lifting one of the boys off of the ground, screaming at him and beating him on his bare back, the documents state. About a week later, the same woman witnessed a similar incident. The woman reported the abuse to the sheriff’s deputy assigned to Lincoln at the time, Gary Weisner, who also is named in the complaint. Read More. |
