MOBILE, Ala. -- An inmate is back in Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore after escaping from a work release crew Tuesday and leading authorities on a manhunt through heavy rain, a Monroeville police official said Wednesday. Terry Atchley, 45, was in prison on a theft of property conviction, said Sgt. Omer West, Monroeville police chief investigator. West said Atchley was assigned to work with the maintenance department at Alabama Southern Community College. He was supposed to attend a 2:30 p.m. daily meeting but did not show up. The Alabama Department of Corrections called in search dogs. Additional help came form the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, local constables and officials with district attorney of the 35th Judicial Circuit, which covers Monroe and Conecuh counties.
