Alton police have arrested a local man on several charges after he allegedly faked his death to avoid dealing with the charges.

Patrick J. Holcomb, 53, of Dover turned himself in last Friday and is facing charges of stalking a local female. He also faces a charge of breach of bail conditions and is being held at the Belknap County Department of Corrections jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail.

According to police, Officer Brett Murray observed a suspicious vehicle circling the downtown area on Oct. 2. Murray pulled the vehicle over for a violation and identified the operator as Holcomb.

In a release, the police department said that, while speaking with Holcomb, Murray became more concerned about Holcomb since he could not provide Murray with any reasonable explanation for his actions. Holcomb reportedly allowed Murray to look inside his vehicle and the officer located several pairs of glasses, jackets and overnight bags with changes of clothing in them.
