MANHATTAN — City corrections officials are working out a plan to safely release Lil' Wayne from Rikers Island on Thursday, a department spokesperson said.

The famous rapper and convicted felon, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, is expected to be released on Thursday morning after serving eight months of a one-year sentence on a gun possession charge. The entertainer will be released early because of good behavior.

"A plan is in development that will reflect any special security consideration that arise from his high profile," corrections spokesperson Stephen Morello said.

Morello said more details about his release may be available on Tuesday.
