A rumored suicide pact among prisoners at the state's only women's prison resulted in heightened vigilance over the Halloween weekend, according to officials with the Michigan Department of Corrections. But only one incident was reported -- an unsuccessful suicide attempt that was possibly unrelated, MDOC spokesman Russ Marlan said Tuesday. Staffing at the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility, near Ypsilanti, was beefed up Saturday after Warden Millicent Warren received credible information that a group of prisoners may have entered into a suicide pact planned for Devil's Night or Halloween, Marlan said. Several prisoners with histories of suicide attempts and mental health issues were placed on direct observation, he said. Read More. |
