| 2004 Cold Case Gets Indictment |

Bibb County grand jurors indicted a Jonesboro man Tuesday in connection with the 2004 shooting death of a convenience store owner. Richard Joel Jenkins, 26, is charged with criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, aggravated assault and two counts of felony murder in the death of 48-year-old Gopal Patel, according to the indictment. Patel was shot Nov. 29, 2004, during a robbery attempt at the V&R Food Store on Jeffersonville Road in east Bibb County. Jenkins was arrested in the Atlanta area on an armed robbery charge soon after the shooting and has been in custody, prosecutor Garrison A. Wood said. He is being held at Hancock State Prison on armed robbery, drug, theft and obstruction charges, according to Georgia Department of Corrections records. Read More. |
