The Davidson County (Tenn.) Sheriff has suspended two sergeants after the escape of several inmates last month. The investigation into the jail break also led to the resignation of a female officer. Sheriff Daron Hall says officer Elizabeth Hales submitted her resignation last Tuesday. A review of the escape found that the night the inmates climbed through the ceiling area, Hales and the officers did not make a visual check of the special needs unit where the inmates were being held. The inmates fooled officers by stuffing newspaper into their jumpsuits to make it look like they were asleep. One of the sergeants suspended, Waymond Lewis, was on duty that night. The other sergeant, Clarence Craft, was on duty prior to the shift change. Both will be on leave for five days without pay. |
