POLK CITY | Convicted Lakeland car dealer Michael Holley, who pleaded no contest to charges of bilking customers of more than $500,000, is now serving his two-year prison term at Polk Correctional Institution near Polk City, state records show. On weekdays, he's assigned to a work crew assisting the state Department of Transportation in the Tampa area, said Gretl Plessinger, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Corrections. He's listed in community custody, which is the lowest of the state's five levels. In a plea agreement with prosecutors, Holley, 49, pleaded no contest to grand theft charges in January for bilking customers at his Chevrolet and Kia dealerships in Lakeland. Authorities said 45 customers signed over their trade-in vehicles in 2008, but Holley never paid off the loans on those cars. Read More. |
