| Mass. Dept. of Correction recognizes staff achievements |

MILFORD (November 5, 2010)-The Massachusetts Department of Correction (DOC) recognized over 50 employees today at its annual DOC 2010 Beyond Excellence Awards Ceremony. DOC staff were recognized for their innovation which led to streamlined operations, reduced expenses, and improved care and custody of inmates and the safety of staff illustrating the very best in public service during 2010. In addition, the Department of Children and Families received the Innovations in Public Safety Partnership Award for its work with the DOC on offender reentry and family reunification. Their achievements were highlighted by Commissioner Harold W. Clarke and Executive Office of Public Safety and Security Secretary Mary Elizabeth Heffernan, and Sandra M. McCroom, Undersecretary of Criminal Justice at the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security. The Mass. Department of Correction employs approximately 5,000 staff and houses over 11,000 inmates in 18 facilities, ranging from pre-release to maximum security.
