DAVIESS CO, KY (WFIE) - The welcome mat is out at the Daviess County Detention Center. More inmates means more revenue. It's a winning arrangement for the state, the county and the taxpayers. There are ten new inmates from the state at the Daviess County Detention Center, with ten more coming this week. The new inmates could bring up to $225,000 to the jail, meaning less money taxpayers have to pay. Sergeant Nancy Ankrom says an empty jail isn't always a good thing. "The empty beds means less revenue for the county, which means the more money the tax payers have to put into the jail." Recently, the Department of Corrections declared Daviess County a strong jail, meaning they have a low escape rate and high security. The jail was selected to participate in a Pilot D-Class Program.
