| Judge: Herzog, Serial Killer To Change Location |

A convicted killer who was released on parole about an hour and a half north of Washoe County, could soon be leaving the area altogether. A superior court judge has ruled that Loren Herzog should not have been placed in Susanville, CA, and that the California prison system failed to follow proper procedures. I have a copy of the court's ruling. It says the California Department of Corrections failed in the procedural process. That includes waiting until just two days before Herzog's release, before contacting Lassen County. Statute requires 45 days notice. Monday's ruling comes after several protests in Susanville, and thousands of signatures were gathered in opposition. Here is a look at some of the protests since September. That's when the people of Lassen County first learned Herzog would be placed there. He was convicted of three killings in Central California many years ago, but a jury later overturned those convictions because they ruled his statements to police were coerced. He did though plead guilty to a manslaughter charge, so after several years in prison, CDOC ultimately chose Lassen County as the place for his parole. Read More. |
