| County Speaks Out Against Prisoner Release |

A state budget-cutting plan that calls for releasing inmates from overcrowded Nebraska prisons has Hall County officials worried. Hall County Corrections Director Fred Ruiz told county supervisors on Tuesday that he has heard reports that the Nebraska Department of Corrections will release up to 800 inmates. He expects a share of those inmates to reappear at the local jail. “I’m a realist — they are going to violate,” Ruiz said. “Where they don’t have jobs, they don’t have programs, they’re going to violate.” It will impact the jail, sheriff’s deputies, police officers, prosecutors and defenders, he said.
