BONNEY LAKE, Wash.-- Kelli Brooks says lately every morning feels like Christmas for her. "I just kept calling it my miracle," said Brooks. A week ago she moved back in with her parents in Bonney Lake after serving just over a year in prison. Technically, she still has a year left to go on her sentence. Brooks is one of the first offenders to benefit from a new program, which allows qualified inmates the chance to leave prison early to care for their children. "We know where they're at, we know what they're doing, they have to have an authorized schedule," said Susie Leavell, Department of Corrections Program Coordinator. Read More. |
