A Battle Creek man serving nearly 60 years in prison has lost an attempt to overturn his conviction. A three-judge panel of the Michigan Court of Appeals, in an opinion released Wednesday, unanimously affirmed the conviction of Eugene LeClear, convicted last year of robbing and beating a couple on March 26, 2008. LeClear was convicted by a Calhoun County Circuit Court jury on 11 counts including armed robbery, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, home invasion, unlawful imprisonment and weapons charges.
