| NM Man Gets Away With No Jail Time For Murder |

A Santa Fe man pleaded guilty Wednesday to the May killing of another man, but he managed to avoid prison time. Teodoro Noedel, 37, shot Donivin Theragood outside an apartment complex on the south side of town May 13. But evidence that the victim instigated matters that night contributed to a judge's ruling that Noedel not spend any time behind bars. Noedel — who faced a murder charge and up to life in prison prior to his plea deal with the District Attorney's Office — was sentenced by state Chief District Judge Stephen Pfeffer to a year of electronic monitoring, followed by probation, after Noedel pleaded guilty to a single count of voluntary manslaughter. Noedel could have received up to seven years in prison. But in explaining his decision, the judge cited evidence from a June preliminary hearing that indicated Theragood, 22, struck Noedel with a table leg before the shooting occurred. Read More. |
