| KY State Inmates Finishing Sentences In County Jail |

OWENSBORO, Ky. -- Kentucky's Department of Corrections is transferring state prisoners nearing the end of their sentences to the Daviess County Detention Center and other county jails. The 10 inmates that went to Daviess County were each serving time in prisons for nonviolent or nonsexual offenses. All were convicted of crimes that sent them to prison for more than five years, but they are now in the final 18 months of their sentences. The state already mandates that inmates convicted of Class D felonies who are serving sentences of five years of less do their time in county jails. But earlier this year, the General Assembly expanded the program to allow Class D inmates who were initially sentenced to more than five years in prison to finish their sentences in county jails when less than five years of the sentences remain.
