JUNEAU — A 45-year-old Watertown man killed himself in the Dodge County Jail last week.

Dodge County Sheriff Todd Nehls said Kerry Sayles was pronounced dead Saturday at University Hospital and Clinics in Madison. Jail workers found Sayles hanging from a torn bed sheet in his jail cell around 12:20 p.m. on Nov. 12. Sayles was still alive when jail staff checked on him at 11:42 a.m., Nehls said.

"I would describe (Sayles) as being very determined," Nehls said. "And if you're determined to take your life, you'll find a way to execute that plan and be successful."

Security staff immediately began resuscitative efforts on Sayles, who still had a pulse when he was transported to Beaver Dam Community Hospital and later to Madison.
