A standoff in east Orange County is over, and the man who barricaded himself in his house for hours has been arrested. Deputies surrounded the house in the 2200 block of Bonneville Drive, off East Colonial Drive, about 1:45 p.m. Neighbors reported that a man inside had fired at passing cars, said Cpl. Susan Soto, a sheriff's spokeswoman. The man, Luis Angel Aponte, 25, walked in and out of the house several times, talking and yelling, and at one point waved a machete around, Soto said. Investigators don't know what sparked his behavior or why he wouldn't surrender. After about five hours, law officers lobbed tear gas into the house. Aponte was arrested on charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held without bail at the Orange County Jail. Read More. |
