TRENTON -- A new report issued by New Jersey courts sets out the numbers supporting the continued statewide commitment to its highly touted drug court programs.

Recently released data show those who end up in the program are more likely to find jobs, and less likely to end up back in front of a judge.

With some 4,000 probationers across the state working the 12-steps toward a clean and sober life, the 10-year-old intensive supervision and treatment program can boast some 1,500 graduates; a 59 percent retention rate for its participants; a 40 percentage point drop in recidivism for its graduates; and countless opportunities for a better New Jersey.

"I'm writing this letter to express my gratitude for being accepted into the Drug Court Program…I am going on four years clean and sober," according to a letter in the report signed only "Drug Court Participant Paula R." "I had gotten high from the age of 12 year old to 40 year old. Today, I live without the use of drugs and alcohol…Since being in Drug Court I have achieved getting custody of my 4-year-old son back, maintaining employment for three years and a beautiful apartment, I also got my driver's license back."
