Federal officials on Wednesday threw out the conviction of a local man whose civil rights allegedly were violated by a police officer who is charged in a federal corruption probe. In a separate case, federal officials also vacated the sentence of a person who was allowed to plead guilty to a single charge and trim 23 years off his prison time, records show. Lindell Pointer, 35, was freed from a federal holding facility and arrived in Tulsa to be with his family, he told the World. Pointer was sentenced Dec. 29, 2008, to serve 14 years in federal prison, according to his petition to vacate his sentence. Pointer's sentence was to run consecutively with a five-year sentence in state prison, records show. In state court in 2008, Pointer pleaded guilty to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
