Despite tight budgets, the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center may need work to correct deficiencies cited in recent state inspections. The first step involves securing an architect to inspect the jail. The results of that inspection will determine what work, if any, must be done. Calling the facility "one of the best in South Carolina," Orangeburg-Calhoun Law Enforcement Commission Chairman Robert Hooper said 90 percent of work required by state inspectors is routinely addressed quickly. He says most of the items involve inmate safety. "We have corrected most of that stuff," Hooper said. "We occasionally have a hard time finding parts to fix some things immediately." Read More. |
