SANTA ANA -- A deputy warden's decision to release a convicted child rapist almost blew any chances for prosecutors to keep him behind bars, but thanks to an alleged parole violation in Tustin the man who sexually assaulted two young girls in the 1980s was sent back to prison Wednesday. Lawrence Joseph Brown, 52, was convicted in 1985 for sexually assaulting the two girls, aged 7 and 8, in Santa Ana. Two alleged victims of Brown from the late 1970s that investigators did not know about came forward Wednesday, allowing prosecutors to revive their attempts to get Brown designated as a sexually violent predator, which would allow authorities to hold him indefinitely in a mental health facility, Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas announced Wednesday night at a news conference.
