Grieving Father Speaks At Prisons

Not two minutes after introducing himself, Brad Bulla is overwhelmed with emotion.

He's standing in front of about two-dozen inmates at a Tennessee Department of Corrections facility and he's there to tell them the story of how his 17-year-old son, Jed, died.

For the past several years, Bulla has volunteered with a victim advocacy group called You Have the Power, and his job is to help inmates understand how their crimes can have lasting and devastating effects. On a day-to-day basis, Bulla is able to compartmentalize his anguish, something he said he must do so that he can get out of bed in the morning and function in an otherwise normal fashion. But on these days, when he speaks to inmates about his son, Bulla must confront his loss.
