FAIRVIEW — An Atlanta attorney who represents five Liberian-born children said a trial may be held in January to ultimately determine who is responsible for caring for them. The five children were adopted by Fairview residents Ardee and Penny Tyler, who in February were convicted of child abuse for abusing one of the children, who now is 15 years old. “The status is that we’re looking forward to a jury trial in the near future,” said Melvin Johnson, the children’s attorney. “It looks like it will be somewhere in January.” The Oklahoman reported Monday during a closed hearing in Major County District Court, the Tylers asked for a jury to decide the custody case, and the trial would be Jan. 24.
