COLUMBUS, GA -- A state prisoner who lost both his legs after being severely injured while collecting trash in Columbus has filed a federal lawsuit against the city, the Georgia Department of Corrections, and the motorist who crashed into the back of a garbage truck. 40-year-old Michael D. Murray is seeking at least $1 million in damages. Court documents show Murray’s legs were broken in the crash and eventually amputated.. The lawsuit claims city and DOC officials and Muscogee County Prison Warden Bill Adamson failed to implement safeguards for prisoners collecting trash, and that they did not properly train Murray and others in “trash collecting duties.” The crash happened November 3, 2008, on Reese Road. According to the lawsuit, Murray was placing a trash can on the back of the garbage truck when he was struck by a car driven by 24-year-old Brandon M. Marks, of Fortson, Georgia. Read More. |
