| New Program Keeps Officer's Power In Line |

A law enforcement officer's job is to serve and protect, and a new program at Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy in Gadsden County is ensuring that recruits know the consequences of abusing their power before they even get their badge. The prevention based course deals with officer involved domestic violence, a problem that can affect law enforcement agencies across the state. "Officers have long focused on the civilian problem of domestic violence but we've been aware that officers can have the same violence in their homes," says Karen Oehme, director for the Institute for Family Violence Studies at FSU. Through a computerized course, recruits are given case scenarios about domestic violence and learn alternative healthy solutions to dealing with the stress of the job after they go home. Read More. |
