| New 911 Call Center To Open After January |

Sometime in late January or February, Prince George's County's new 911 dispatch center will be able to a dispatch a police officer or fire truck closest to the source of an emergency call instead of dispatching to a station, a change that should lower response times, Center Director Charlynn Flaherty said Tuesday. "It's a service to everyone," she said about the new automatic vehicle locator system. "It will help save a police officer from having to drive halfway across the county, and it should make EMS calls more efficient." The improved service is one of the upgrades expected as a result of a move from the center's current 28,000-square-foot building in Landover to its new 40,000-square-foot home in the Maryland Science and Technology Center @ Melford in Bowie.
