ASHEVILLE — An anarchist group claimed responsibility for vandalism at a state Department of Corrections office on McDowell Street. Six state vehicles were damaged and had their tires slashed. The damage was estimated at $3,000. The vandals also sprayed painted “Burn the Prisons” and an anarchy symbol on the side of the building. A group called Denver Anarchist Black Cross took credit for the vandalism in an online positing. The group claimed that the vandalism was an act of solidarity with other anarchists who have been imprisoned for protests at the G20 meetings in Pittsburg and at the Republican National Convention. “This building oversees the administration of probation and forced drug texts (sic),” the post states. “It is one institutional position of the DOC. It is linked to the Prison Industrial Complex, and the police apparatus.” Read More. |
