SARALAND, Ala. -- A pedestrian attempting to cross Interstate 65 near Saraland Monday was struck and killed by an Alabama Department of Corrections van, Alabama state Troopers said. A trooper accident report identified the victim as 19-year-old Henry Patrick Handley of Grand Bay. He was struck just south of the 13-mile marker of I-65 about 1:15 p.m., the report said. Trooper spokesman Greg Eubanks said the victim was trying to cross I-65 and had just gotten over the median barrier in the southbound lanes, then attempted to turn back, when he was struck.
