| MI County May Get New Jail |

SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY -- The Schoolcraft County Jail doesn't meet the standards of the Michigan Department of Corrections, and Schoolcraft County had until October 1 to do something about it. Nothing to date has been done except for minor repairs. Right now the Schoolcraft County Board of Commissioners has referred the matter back to the Schoolcraft County Jail Committee for language for a millage to present to the county board for approval on December 9. To fix the problem for the lowest cost, a new jail could be built next to the current jail and would be approximately $5 million to construct. The old jail would then be torn down. Read More. |
