An inmate walked away from a Des Moines work release facility Tuesday, officials said, in the second incident such in six days. Authorities are looking for Donald Charles Fessler, 42, who failed to return to a Des Moines facility Tuesday night. Fessler is serving a 10-year sentence for robbery. He is classified as a prison escapee. On Nov. 25, Steve Collins, 45, was reported as an escapee after failing to report for work the previous day. Such escapes are rare, though an Iowa Department of Corrections spokesman could not provide specific data on escapes from work release centers. “Sometimes they go in spurts,” said Fred Scaletta, the spokesman. “These facilities are designed for people who have already served several years of a prison sentence and are transitioning back to society.
