| Not Guilty Pleas Entered In Officers' Misconduct Case |

Two former correctional officers pled not guilty to multiple felony charges of custodial sexual misconduct, bringing contraband into a penal institution, and unauthorized delivery of delivery of contraband into a penal institution. Former Edgar County Correctional Officers Kent A. Rhoads, 51, and Jason R. Ball, 32, were arrested in July following an investigation by both the Edgar County Sheriffâs Department and Illinois State Police Zone 5 Special Agents. Both Rhoads and Ball entered their pleas near the end of a preliminary hearing. After hearing testimony from an Illinois State Police Special Agent, Judge James Glenn found probable cause in both cases. Rhoads is charged with two Class 1 felony counts of unauthorized bringing of contraband into a penal institution by an employee, two Class 3 felony counts of unauthorized delivery of contraband in a penal institution by an employee and three Class 3 felony counts of custodial sexual misconduct. Ball is charged with one Class 1 felony count of unauthorized bringing of contraband into a penal institution by an employee, two Class 3 felony counts of unauthorized delivery of contraband in a penal institution by an employee and four Class 3 felony counts of custodial sexual misconduct. Special Agent Lisa Crowder of the Illinois State Police testified to the court on what she found after conducting an investigation of allegations of misconduct. Crowder said that on June 15 of this year, Sheriff Tim Crippes requested that the state police look into allegations that two correctional officers might have been having sexual intercourse with female inmates.
