A confluence of factors has filled up the Pitkin County Jail recently, and the small facility is pushing its capacity. Overcrowding has rarely been a problem in the nearly 27-year history of the 18-cell jail, where stays are normally measured in days or weeks. There are currently 22 inmates at the jail, including five work-release subjects who leave during work hours. The facility is designed to hold up to 26 people. Read More. |
