NEWARK — Tyron Benson’s entire family was gathered for Thanksgiving dinner at a relative’s house in Newark last week when police showed up at the door with grim news. Benson, a 31-year-old father of four, had not shown up for the meal because he was found dead in Newark’s jail on Green Street, police said. The shocked family later learned Benson had been arrested the day before and was placed in the city lockup overnight. Officers on a routine patrol discovered him hanging by his belt from the bars of his cell door Thanksgiving afternoon.
