| Restitution Slow To Find Its Way To Victims |

Nearly two months after the Free Press found Wayne County owes millions of dollars in restitution payments to crime victims, the problem still isn't fixed. But officials say they're working on it. Representatives from several county offices have met twice and will reconvene next week. William Wolfson, a lawyer hired to broker a fix, said Friday that some victims have gotten money. But clerk's office chief deputy Caven West refused to provide specifics. That same day, an 89-year-old Downriver woman said she still hasn't gotten a cent of the $1,210 paid to the county by one of the men who savagely beat her two years ago. A man who runs a 7-Eleven in Taylor says ditto for the $500 he's owed. And relatives of a disabled Brownstown Township man said he hasn't gotten $840 his sister paid after ripping him off.
