Prison officer held in rape of woman

A 28-year-old federal corrections officer was arrested late Tuesday in connection with the kidnapping and rape of a McMinnville, Ore. woman.
Robert James Stamper was arrested at his place of employment, the Sheridan Federal Corrections Institution in Yamhill County.
Stamper has been charged with kidnapping, rape and attempted murder, according to KATU-TV, which reported the arrest.
He is being lodged at the Yamhill County jail.
A Lexis Nexis database search also indicates Stamper is, or was, an army reservist, stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash.
His arrest followed the release of a sketch drawn up by the police with the help of the victim. Because the sketch closely resembles Stamper, the department began fielding "call after call," according to KATU-TV, eventually leading to the arrest.
Stamper will be arraigned at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Yamhill County Courthouse.
A message was left on Stamper's answering machine, but the call was not returned.
The ordeal began about 3 a.m. Monday when the 18-year-old woman was confronted by a gun-wielding man while working the night shift at a Mennonite group home on NE Third Street where she cares for disabled adults.
The man forced her to walk to his pickup, then drove her to a rural wooded area and repeatedly sexually assaulted her, Yamhill County District Attorney Brad Berry said Tuesday. The man then choked her and left her for dead.
The woman later regained consciousness and walked along a trail.
Eventually she found a log-truck driver, who took her into town, where police were called.
She was taken to Willamette Valley Medical Center and is recovering, Berry said.
