Their collective shudder comes out of an incident Oct. 12 when seven youth from Springfield Academy - a privately run psychiatric residential treatment facility - walked away from the academy, used a shovel to break into a vacant residence in town and were trying to load a rifle they found there when the home's owner walked in. "It could have been very serious," Bon Homme County State's Attorney Lisa Rothschadl says. If the young man sitting cross-legged on the living room floor had succeeded in loading the .30-06 rifle, "I don't think they would have held back," said Clay Barham, the homeowner.
