| Sex Offender Pleads Guilty To Stabbing Officer |

NORMAN — A convicted sex offender who slit his own throat and then allegedly stabbed a sheriff’s deputy inside a Cleveland County courtroom in November 2009 has pleaded guilty to the crime, according to court records. Cleveland County prosecutors charged Troy Jefferson Leal, 44, in December 2009 with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a felony. He also was charged with carrying weapons, a misdemeanor. Court records show Leal appeared before District Judge Rod Ring on Monday and entered his plea. Leal will be sentenced Feb. 23, 2011. On Nov. 12, 2009, District Judge William C. Hetherington Jr., had just sentenced Leal to six years with the Department of Corrections for violating his probation when he took out an X-Acto knife, cut his own throat and stabbed Deputy Steve Lucas who tried to restrain him, according to a court affidavit.
