EAST WINTHROP -- A group that works with adolescents in foster care has received a $150,000 grant to establish a "multidimensional" treatment program for 10 youths in Androscoggin, Franklin, Kennebec, Oxford and Somerset counties who are involved with the Department of Corrections.

The grant is from the state departments of Corrections and Health and Human Services.

The program at Community Health and Counseling Services is an alternative to group or institutional placement for children ages 12 through 17 who have disruptive behavior and other problems, and who are unable to remain in their homes.

The program focuses on treatment and provides encouragement to develop good academic and social choices, according to a news release from the agency. Foster parents receive extensive and ongoing training and support.
