Mass. inmates organize 'sick out'
By Associated Press
Published: 07/15/2004

The Cedar Junction state prison in Walpole, Mass. was in lockdown mode Wednesday after inmates organized a work stoppage.
Department of Correction spokesman Justin Latini said the 40 inmates who work in the prison's industry program submitted sick slips saying they'd be out of work today.
It was not immediately clear what the inmates were protesting.
Commissioner Kathleen Dennehy ordered the entire prison locked down while officials investigate.
Inmates in the industry program make license plates and other items for the state.
Cedar Junction is a maximum security prison that houses more than 600 inmates.
