| Parolee Found Drowned, Frozen In IL |

A woman with a history of alcohol abuse, whose frozen body was found Sunday in south suburban Palos Township, drowned in a ditch, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. It remains unclear whether she was drinking before her death, officials said. "There is an indication that she had been," said Liane Jackson, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office, which is handling the investigation, but the department is waiting for toxicology test results to confirm that. Those results could take up to three months to be completed, she said. Palos Park police found the woman, Paula Spika, 50, of Palos Park, in a water-filled ditch covered with ice near 86th Avenue and 127th Street after her family reported her missing. Palos Fire Protection District firefighters had to cut through ice to retrieve Spika's body. Read More. |
