BILLINGS - A former Billings school bus driver who admitted to driving drunk and hitting a high schooler in a cross walk was sentenced Wednesday. Whalen was sentenced to 72 months in the Montana Department of Corrections with 18 suspended, the judge also recommended for community supervision, which means he'll likely be placed in a pre-release center. Whalen was sentenced for negligent vehicular assault and criminal endangerment. His blood alcohol content was .118 when he hit 15-year-old Ellie Dykes as she crossed the street near West High School last September. She suffered a broken leg. Whalen fled to Washington State after he was charged. He was later returned to Montana and pled guilty. Read More. |
