SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois Department of Corrections says the state's prison inmates won't have to worry about going without underpants -- at least for now. The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports that because of a global surge in cotton prices, the company hired to supply the broadcloth used for inmate boxer shorts has refused to deliver it, saying it couldn't make any profit. Cotton prices have more than doubled in the past six months. The department hired another company to supply the cloth this week. The new contract is worth $183,800 -- an estimated $50,000 more than the last one. Read More. |
