The federal prison in Terre Haute, Ind. was on lockdown Thursday, one day after officials said an inmate assaulted an officer. An inmate attacked an officer with a "sharpened instrument" about 8 p.m. Wednesday, prison officials said in a news release. Other prison staffers subdued the inmate, who was not identified in the release. The inmate and four officers were injured. The inmate received minor first aid and was placed in a high-security unit in the prison. The injured officers were taken to a hospital. Three were released following treatment, but one still was hospitalized Thursday, officials said. The names of those injured were not released. The FBI is investigating the attack. Officials said the prison will remain on lockdown until normal operations can safely be resumed. |
