| OK Prison Rodeo May Bring In Money |

Should McAlester use city money to restore the rodeo area at Oklahoma State Penitentiary? McAlester Mayor Kevin Priddle thinks the city could use its tourism funds to repair the arena, which is used for what he calls “the oldest and most successful tourism event in McAlester.” McAlester city councilors will consider the matter when they meet in regular session at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in the Council Chambers at City Hall. City councilors will consider a request to use up to $66,000 in city tourism funds to repair the OSP rodeo arena. The 2010 OSP Prison Rodeo had been canceled earlier this year, with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections citing the state budget crunch, DOC manpower issues and the dilapidated condition of part of the rodeo arena as the main reason behind the cancellation.
